Yes is the answer! The below Picture from left to right is:
The original 22RE motor from the hatchback untouched
A performance 22RE Motor I have put together but not run yet
The 1UZFE just after It has been cleaned.
After a lot of research, I found that the 1UZFE only weighs 75 pounds
more than the 22RE. No mods for weight will be needed for the Hatchback.
The widths of the engines are very close. The heads of the 1UZ fit in
about the same spots as the intake and exhaust of the 22RE.
